Empowering Indonesian Women for Poverty Reduction Program, also known as Maju Perempuan Indonesia untuk Penanggulangan Kemiskinan (MAMPU) is a joint initiative of Indonesian Government represented by the National Development Planning Agency (BAPPENAS) and the Australian Government represented by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) in gender-based poverty alleviation efforts in Indonesia
MAMPU aims to increase the scope of public services and livelihood for poor women in Indonesia
To achieve the objectives, MAMPU make efforts to strengthen leadership, organization and women political representation so that they can influence policies, legislation and government services in order to fulfill the needs of poor women.
Circle Indonesia has been appointed by MAMPU-COWATER to facilitate and organize the series of orientation workshops in March-April 2015 in 4 different locations: Yogyakarta, Makassar, Surabaya and Medan. The four workshops were totally attended by 170 participants (144 women and 26 men).
The orientation workshops were conducted to support MAMPU Team in assisting partners and sub-partner organisations to:
- Learn the MAMPU theory of change and better understand how they contribute to the whole program;
- Deepen understanding about the broad range of activities being implemented across the whole of MAMPU so each sub partner can be linked more effectively within the MAMPU network;
- Ensure sub partners understand, use and adopt standard MAMPU financial processes;
- Ensure sub partners understand key DFAT policy requirements such as a zero tolerance to fraud and child protection; and
- Reflect on key internal organisational challenges sub-partners face. What would help them the most to become a stronger partner.
METHODS
The workshop will be delivered in participatory manner through:
- Brainstorming
- Game – role play,
- Presentation and question- answer
- Group discussion
During the workshops, participants also signed the the Stop Abuse to Children Declaration and Anti-Fraud/Corruption Declaration, indicating MAMPU program partners and sub-partners’ commitment not to engage in fraud/corruption practices and to enforce child protection policy in each organisation. In addition, the participants also provided information packets contain MAMPU Branding Guidelines along with templates which ready to use by partners and sub-partners in order to produce their communication materials and publications in accordance with the provisions of those guidelines.
Despite the very tight schedule, participants were very actively participating and interacting and were very enthusiastic during the sessions. Participants’ evaluation of the workshops at the end of each workshop indicated that they felt the workshops objective were achieved although concern was raised on the very limited time available that prevented them to have in depth understanding of the overall sessions
